Master Class Tempera

Tempera is a traditional material dating back to Ancient Egypt and used for icon painting, frescoes and other decorative work. The organic and inorganic pigments, in a polyvinyl acetate suspension, are watersoluble and dry to a thin, opaque, velvety film. It is flexible and can be applied both in pastose and glazing techniques. Suitable for painting on any surface including wood, cardboard, paper, glass, stone, and canvas. The colour palette is more natural than other types of paint, however can be mixed with watercolour or goauche to obtain more complex colours.
