Who this is for
- You love your Opus 88, but want a different line width
- Your nib is damaged, scratchy, or inconsistent
- You want to experiment with custom grinding nibs
- You're a nib explorer and want to try this JoWo nib on a different pen
What's included
- Complete unit with stainless steel nib, feed, and housing
- Screw-in fit with no tools required
- Uses the JoWo Size #5 nib
Writing feel
JoWo stainless steel nibs are known to be firm, wet and smooth. They have a generous slit gap and rounded tipping that provides for smooth writing, even with suboptimal pen angle or poor paper quality.
Installation
- Unscrew your current nib unit from the grip section
- Screw in the new unit until finger tight
- Check the feed is exactly square on the nib
- Fill your pen and begin writing
Practical tip
When installing the nib unit, turn the barrel, rather than turning the nib. This helps prevent accidental twisting of the tines as you screw in the unit. When removing the original nib unit, take care not to lose the o-ring that sits at the back of the nib housing.
FAQs
Can I replace just the nib?
Yes, but it requires more care. A full unit swap is faster and a less inky experience.
Will this nib unit fit any pen that takes a JoWo #5 nib?
Not necessarily. Whilst some pens use the same JoWo #5 nib, they may have a different nib unit and threading. You could try harvesting the nib from the Opus 88 unit and inserting it into the nib unit of the recipient pen.
Is this better than tuning my existing nib?
For damaged nibs or changing sizes, yes. For minor scratchiness, tuning may be sufficient.
Is the nib pre-tuned?
It is factory tuned, and usually reliable. You can request a free nib check in the Checkout comments if you prefer we do a quick check.
Which size should I choose?
Fine works well for most users. Medium offers a smoother feel. The stub is best for expressive writing and line variation.
Fountain pens are modular tools. A simple nib swap can completely change how your pen writes and feels.
