PELIKAN M1000 Limited Edition Maki-e Fountain Pen - Goldfish - Medium Nib - 2025 Limited Edition
Maki-e is the art of Japanese Lacquer painting and is renowned for its beauty and artistry.
In the world of Japanese symbolism, the goldfish (金魚) is a timeless emblem of prosperity, elegance, and good fortune. Its name, believed to derive from “Chin-yui” – the “fish of wealth” – reflects its revered status in art and culture. For centuries, goldfish have graced Maki-e lacquerware as icons of vitality and abundance.
Pelikan proudly presents the Maki-e “Goldfish”, a masterful fusion of Japanese artistry and German craftsmanship. This exquisite fountain pen features a vivid red goldfish on the cap and a delicately rendered white goldfish on the barrel. Each is meticulously hand-painted, their flowing tails and shimmering scales brought to life with subtle touches of gold. Surrounding them, gently swaying hornwort and rippling waves evoke the serene beauty of a tranquil pond.Crafted using the sophisticated Togidashi-Taka-Maki-e technique, this edition combines raised textures with a polished lacquer finish, showcasing the depth and refinement of traditional Japanese lacquer art.
The “Goldfish” is built upon Pelikan’s iconic Souverän® M1000 model and fitted with an 18-carat gold nib, elegantly finished with rhodium. Each piece is individually signed by the Maki-e artist and presented in a traditional Paulownia wood box—a symbol of respect and refinement in Japanese culture.
