Keep your pen writing like new

A good fountain pen should last a long time. Like any precision instrument, it performs best with occasional maintenance. All service is performed in our Brookvale workshop using specialist tools, careful testing and years of fountain pen experience.

Choose the service you need

• Nib tuning: For nibs that don't feel smooth. Often presenting as a 'catch' in one stroke direction. Our technicians tune the nib so it writes smoother and more consistently. Please leave ink in the pen before sending it to us.
  
  
• Ink flow adjustment: If you pen feels too wet or too dry, we can fine tune it. Ideal for hard starts, dry writing or excessively wet writing. Please leave ink in the pen before sending it to us.
  
  
• Ultrasound deep cleaning: Our ultrasonic cleaning process removes stubborn ink deposits from areas that normal flushing cannot reach. Ideal for flow issues caused by old ink or as an annual preventative maintenance, especially if using pigmented inks. Please remove bulk of ink from your pen before sending it to us.
  
  
• Piston servicing: Piston fillers require occasional servicing to keep seals lubricated and mechanisms moving freely. Ideal for stiff pistons, rough filling action or annual preventative maintenance. If possible send your pen without ink.

How it works

1. Select your service: Choose the service you require from this page and complete your order. Maximum three pens per order.
   
   
2. Package your pen: Pack your pen to protect it in the post. Include a one sentence description of the issue. We do not require the original box or any accessories.
   
   
3. Post it to us: Either drop off your pen or send it to us at our Brookvale store. Use tracked postage wherever possible and consider insurance for high value pens.
   
   
4. We service your pen: Our team will notify you when we receive the pen. Our technicians inspect, service and test your pen before returning it.
   
   
5. Return shipping: We'll carefully package your pen and send it back ready to write. Our team will notify you when the pen is ready to return. You are welcome to place a Pick Up order if you want to add any additional items to the post satchel.

Turnaround time

Please allow approximately 2 weeks from the time your pen arrives at our Brookvale workshop. During busy periods this may be slightly longer, but we'll keep you informed.

FAQs

How much does servicing cost?
Service is free for LarryPOST purchased pens. Maximum of three pens per order. Spare parts, if required, and return postage are additional.

Do you offer repairs for damaged nibs?
Nibs with broken tines, missing tipping or bends visible to the naked eye are not easy to fix and often require nib replacement. Tines misaligned by a soft fall can usually be fixed with our tuning service.

Do you offer nib grinds?
No, we mainly use tuning to improve nib feel. Although we may smooth an uneven tip surface, we are not able to offer grinds that remove material to change the profile or size of the original nib. If you require nib grinding we can put you in touch with an appropriate nibmeister.

Can you replace a vintage sac?
No. Our servicing is primarily intended for modern fountain pens, but feel free to contact us and we can recommend another service provider with experience in pre-1980 pens (ie. rubber sacs, cork seals, celluloid, casein bodies, vintage flex nibs).

Can I get a valuation of my pen?
No, but you can contact us for information about Australia's pen community, who may be able to help.

While every pen is handled with care, fountain pens are precision instruments and may have aged parts.

By booking this service you acknowledge:

• LarryPOST exercises every reasonable care whole servicing your pen
• We cannot accept responsibility for items lost or damaged during transit to or from our workshop. We recommend using tracked and insured postage where appropriate.
• Some older or well used pens may contain components that have weakened through age, wear or material fatigue. On rare occasions these parts may fail during normal disassembly or servicing despite careful handling.
• If spare parts or additional work is required to the service requested, we will contact you before proceeding.
