Rosemary & Co in England make an excellent value watercolour brush range, with many of the popular models also available in travel format.

The premium brushes for travel sketching are the R2 Kolinsky for detail and the R9 Squirrel for washes. Equivalent brushes on a short wooden handle are Series 33 Kolinsky Sable or the synthetic Red Dot Collection. Synthetics are the more hardy fibre for acrylic or oils, and usually preferred on a longer handle, however sables can still be justified in the smaller sizes.
