UK-made quality you can feel

Rosemary & Co in England make an excellent value watercolour brush range, with many of the popular models also available in travel format. The premium brushes for travel sketching are the R2 Kolinsky Sable for detail and the R9 Squirrel for washes. Equivalent sable brushes on a short wooden handle are Series 33 Kolinsky Sable and a cost alternative is the modern sable synthetic Red Dot Collection. Experienced artists often favour a dagger brush which gives you a point and flat in the one brush, leading to more expressive work. Lots of other special effects brushes to help you with trees, grass etc and a helpful eradicator for lifting mistakes. Synthetics are the more hardy fibre for acrylic or oils however sables and sable blends can still be justified in the smaller sizes. With your good brushes, protect the fibres from punitive use, rinse immediately after use and store flat to prevent pigment and water entering the ferrule and handle.
