DE ATRAMENTIS Permanent Document Ink 45mL - Black

De Atramentis Document ink is a German hand made fountain pen ink that is permanent, waterproof, and archival. We have used it in our pens for over a decade and think it has the best flow of all the waterproof options.

Popular with artists, writers, and anyone who wants their words and art to last. When we first started using document ink, we thought it was for artists only, but now see it is trusted by anyone who takes writing seriously.

Contains nano particles of pigment that bind to the paper within a few minutes of drying. You can watercolour over the top without your line work smudging. The archival properties mean your journal entries will not fade over time.

Also suitable for use with dip pens, synthetic brushes and may also flow well enough in refillable brush pens. Letter writers and calligraphers can trust their work and envelopes will remain legible regardless of the exposure environment.

Fast drying: This is a surprise of the document inks. They often dry faster and produce a crisper, narrower line than soluble inks. May help you if you have a nib that writes too wide.

Permanent & waterproof: Won’t run once dry, making them ideal for mixed media, letters, or legal documentation.

Smooth, reliable flow: Keeps your fountain pens and dip pens happy. We recommend using your fountain pen weekly to maintain good flow. Work best in high flow pens like Twsbi and other brands with a good sealing twist cap.

Rich, deep colour: Every stroke looks sharp, professional, and expressive. This black is very black, rarely feathers and lines remain intense for years to come. 

As with all De Atramentis document ink, the different colours are intermixable and can be diluted with De Atramentis thinner, without altering the waterproof properties. Most popular colours for sketching after black are grey, urban grey, urban sienna, brown, and sepia. Writers like black, blue, dark blue, dark red, olive green and the purples.

Do not use permanent inks near soft furnishings. Any spill will be difficult to remove. Take care using in fountain pens with specific warnings, light coloured resins or transparent parts that you prefer remain pristine.
