WINSOR & NEWTON Professional Watercolour - 14mL - 422 Naples Yellow (Pbr24,PW6)
Naples Yellow is an opaque pinkish-yellow pigment. Originally a lead antimonite pigment, it can be found in Babylon tiles dating 5th c BC. Its name comes from natural deposits found in Mount Vesuvius, Naples. Used by the Old Masters, it has been made artificially since the 15th c.
It is a soft, creamy yellow with a gentle warmth that brings subtle light and harmony to watercolour paintings. Part of the Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour range, it offers a more muted and understated alternative to brighter yellows, making it ideal for sunlit landscapes, skin tones, florals and atmospheric effects. Its delicate character allows artists to create natural highlights and warm passages of colour without overwhelming surrounding hues.
Highly valued for its versatility, Naples Yellow mixes beautifully with earth colours, reds and blues to create a range of soft neutrals and natural tones. It is particularly useful for reducing the intensity of stronger colours while maintaining warmth and luminosity. Whether used for portraiture, botanical work or landscape painting, Naples Yellow provides a refined, elegant warmth that helps unify and soften a painting.
