How To: Clean Twsbi Eco

How To: Clean Twsbi Eco

Routine Cleaning

Quick cleaning for when you are changing ink colour

  1. Turn the end cap anti-clockwise to expel any ink from the pen
  2. Fill a cup with tap water
  3. Submerge the entire nib under water and turn end cap clockwise to fill the barrel with water
  4. Empty and refill with water a few times to flush out majority of the old ink
  5. Shake off excess water and leave pen on desk to dry

Deeper Barrel Cleaning

Deeper cleaning to remove ink stains from inside the barrel

  1. Slide the nib and feed out of the grip section of the pen, taking care not to damage fins on the feed
  2. Soak nib and feed in a cup of water to flush out residual ink
  3. Use a long cotton tip applicator to clean inside the grip section
  4. A blunt syringe can also be used to fill the barrel with water and draw up the dirty water
  5. We finish the job by wiping outside surfaces with an alcohol-free baby wipe.
  6. Spot clean stubborn ink stains with a gentle citrus cleaner - light touch, no rubbing

Avoid using surfactants (soaps) or detergents that change ink flow or alcohol based cleaners which can damage the polycarbonate.

Cap Cleaning

Getting the ink stains out of your cap is easier than you think. Inside the cap there is an inner cap that you can temporarily take out for cleaning.

  1. Wind a small elastic band a few times around the end of a pencil
  2. Insert elastic banded end into fountain pen cap to "pick up" and remove the inner cap
  3. Wash inner cap out under tap water
  4. Use long cotton tip application to clean inside of main cap
  5. Leave parts to dry, then reinsert the inner cap into the main cap and push fully into place with pencil

Piston Assembly Maintenance

See TWSBI Eco disassembly and assembly for step-by-step instructions on how to access the piston for cleaning and maintenance. You usually only need to do this if ink gets in behind the piston or the piston is no longer moving smoothly. We service TWSBI pens purchased from us for life of the pen, for free.
