FAQs
Why a fountain pen? Writing with a fountain pen is the most effortless way to put ink on a page. When the tool disappears in your hand it makes it easier to find your writing and thinking rhythm.
What if I don’t know what to write? Look around you and write a sentence or two about something you notice. Doesn’t need to be anything significant.
Do I need to write every day? No, but the feel of the nib on the smooth paper draws you to want to use the pen. That’s the appeal of modern fountain pens.
Can beginners use this pen? Yes. The Twsbi Eco is one of the most popular fountain pens for beginner adults and often remains a favourite as experience is gained.
Can left handers use this pen? Yes, the combination of the nib size, ink and paper have been selected to suit right or left handers.
Can I use any ink? Yes, as long as the ink is labelled suitable for fountain pens. Artist inks are not usually suitable as they may contain particles that interfere with ink flow.
Will the pen leak? A properly assembled, undamaged pen should work trouble free. Take extra care in extreme environments such as flying or sudden temperature changes.
How do I clean the pen? The kit includes instructions on pen filling and cleaning, but essentially the maintenance is quite low if you use easy care fountain pen inks like the one included.
Why is there a spanner in the box? The Twsbi Eco is designed around a movable piston to draw ink into the pen barrel. The tool and silicone grease are included should you need to service the piston some time down the track. Instructions are in the box.
Should I get the nib tuning? Yes, we check the nib under magnification to ensure the nib is optimised for smooth writing. Ask us in Checkout comments if you want this free service.

Optional items that many beginners wished they knew about when they first started:
- Discover Pilot Iroshizuku: Top 7 Pilot ink samples in wide mouth vials to fit the Twsbi Eco for direct filling
- Col-o-ring: Ink swatch cards to help you see and understand your ink range. Ring bound system to easily change the swatch order as your palette grows.
- Tomoe River A6 Notebook: Ultra thin crisp paper to really show off inks. Use the book to record your fountain pen discovery journey.
- Blunt syringe: Although not necessary for using a Twsbi Eco, it’s a low cost item you may use later for cleaning or moving ink.
- Brass shim 0.02: Small piece of brass sheet you can use to ‘floss’ the nib. Use to remove dried ink or other debris from the nib slit. Feel like a pro from day one.
- Bulb syringe: Our favourite tool for fast cleaning of fountain pens. Not so useful for the Eco barrel design, but excellent for flushing pens that take a cartridge or converter.
