Ideas often begin somewhere vague and half formed, but the movement of a pen across paper helps shape them into something clearer. The feel of the barrel in your hand, the resistance of the page, and the visible marks left behind all slow the mind down just enough to notice what you really think. Fountain pens feel the most effortless, rollerballs offer a convenient form of liquid ink, ballpoints work almost anywhere, and mechanical pencils make it easy to sketch and revise without the pressure of ink. The right pen doesn’t just record ideas. It helps draw them out.
