The body colour is a reproduction of the sea off the west coast of Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas, extracted from coordinates: 24.98503, -76.36213. The cap and end cap feature original colours that reproduce the ooid (fish oocytes) found in the seas of that region.
The Bahamas, to which Eleuthera belongs, is an archipelago consisting of approximately 700 islands and 2,400 large rocks, almost entirely made up of coral reefs. Just outside the shallow coral reefs, there are areas where the water suddenly deepens, sometimes called the "tongue of the sea." The complex water currents created by this difference in depth, along with the pure white sand containing a lot of ooid, create beautiful patterns and vibrant colours.
SAILOR/SATELLITE CRAYON PROJECT
For the "Sea Fountain Pen," SAILOR selected three colours from the 12 colours of the "Sea Crayon" series: "Eleuthera Island," which recreates the sea west of Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas; "Amami Oshima," the colour of the sea around Amami Oshima Island in Japan; and "Syvash," which recreates the Sea of Corruption, a shallow tidal flat stretching along the western shore of the Sea of Azov at the northern tip of the Black Sea. These colours have been incorporated into the fountain pens and inks.
