Standing at the edge of something unwritten, a sketchbook helps you capture the next phase of your creative voice. If you’re not sure which to use, for wet media, we recommend a watercolour sketchbook with around 200gsm paper. Choose a cold press surface to showcase pigment or a smooth hot press surface for working in detail or with fine line pens. Spiral covers are easy to fold back, but a stitched binding is better for working on a double page spread. Popular for travel and fountain pen use are Stillman & Birn softcovers and Global Hand-Book. Watercolour sketchbooks with cotton papers are a step up, as cotton extends drying, giving you more time to adjust your work.
